HERE COMES THE SUMMER

THE SUN'S IN THE SKY (PROBABLY), YOUR TIME IS YOUR OWN, AND THERE'S A WHOLE WORLD OUT THERE, JUST WAITING FOR YOU. BUT WHAT DO YOU DO TO ENJOY IT?
WE CAN OFFER A FEW SUMMERY SUGGESTIONS
1. JOIN THE NATIONAL TRUST AND BE FREE TO EXPLORE SOME OF BRITAIN'S MOST BEAUTIFUL SITES.
Whether you're into gardens, castles, wildlife, places linked with famous events or people, just looking for a new coastal path to walk, or somewhere to enjoy a pot of tea and a home-made cake, the National Trust has it all. £77.50 buys a year's family membership, and entrance to more than 300 historic houses and gardens. You're never more than 40 minutes from a National Trust site, and the range of sites and activities is endless.
2. VISIT SOME OF BRITAIN'S GREATEST BEACHES.
Living on an island with thousands of miles of coastline, we're spoilt for choice. Camber Sands, near Rye in Sussex, has seven miles of sand and dunes; at the beautifully kept West Wittering, south of Chichester, the sea goes
way out. Wales has marvellous beaches from the bracing Rhossilli Sands on the Gower, to Tenby's charming little beaches in Pembrokeshire. England offers clean, safe beaches including those at Scarborough and Whitby, or if you prefer a traditional resort, Clacton in Essex has award winning sands, immaculate promenade gardens and all the facilities of a seaside town.
3. GO NATURAL
Nothing beats the feeling of pulling shoes and socks off after a hot, hard day - and on holiday in the summer it's tempting to wear nothing on your feet at all. But don't go barefoot everywhere: it's simply too easy to pick up an infection from a tiny cut or nick; far better to invest in a pair of orthopaedically designed sandals or shoes from the Birkenstock range. They were the first shoemaker to introduce a flexible arch support, and today their footwear aims to respect nature both in its construction and the way in which it conforms to the contours and dynamics of your feet. The country code says 'leave behind nothing but footprints': now both your carbon and your physical footprint can be light. Your feet won't want to wear anything else.
