THE GTC CONCEPT WAS ONE OF THE STARS OF THE SHOW AT GENEVA IN MARCH. ACCORDING TO THE MEN BEHIND THE CONCEPT, IT PROMISES TO BE FAR MORE THAN JUST A DESIGN EXERCISE - AND WHAT THE GTC STANDS FOR WILL HAVE A FUTURE IN THE REAL WORLD

GRAND DESIGNS

with 245/40 R20 'red line' tyres, the GTC Concept leaves no doubts about its sporting character, or its aerodynamic efficiency, with a wind-cheating Cd of just 0.25.

The interior also offers a glimpse of Vauxhall's next-generation thinking. The theme is again dynamic and absolutely modern. Matt ebony contrasts with high-gloss piano black finishes and structurally elegant aluminium accents. The rotating navigation control is easily located and controlled without the driver having to take their eyes off the road, and the 'red line' graphic of the tyre pattern is woven vertically into the contoured sports seats and into the centreline of the steering wheel.

The GTC Concept is a practical car, too, as Frank Leopold, Manager GME Innovation, Show Cars and Advanced Packaging, explains: 'In the last few years, many cars have grown bigger without passengers benefiting. We have reversed this trend with the GTC Concept… we

optimised the dimensions of the interior - so the car fits like a glove'. The ingenious layout works whichever seat you are in, and whatever seating configuration you choose, because the GTC Concept is as clever as it is beautiful.

And the GTC Concept's performance is as stunning as its looks. With that 300PS V6 and six-speed manual transmission, it promises 155mph and 0-62mph in around six seconds. Its electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system works with Vauxhall's adaptive IDSPlus chassis management system to create maximum security with a driving feel very similar to that of a sporty, rear-wheel drive car.

The future never looked more exciting.
