You probably know how you would really like to look and feel - but do you know how to get there? The answer is to take it step by step. Human beings are fantastic planners and problem solvers. Whatever you need to do, planning prevents pathetically poor performance - the five 'p' rule. Follow a plan and you'll make the whole experience safer, more time efficient and, in the end, more successful.

1 GET THE ALL-CLEAR
Before embarking on a rigorous diet or exercise regime, it's vital to have a full medical with your GP. Explain honestly what you're intending to do. Address your plans realistically, and agree upon them before going further. If you have existing medical issues, complete your treatment or rehabilitation before starting your new regime.

2 NUTRITION
Exercising regularly is only half the battle. To help achieve your training goals, ensure you're consuming the right kinds and amounts of nutritious food, at the right times of day. Eat lots of protein-rich foods such as white meat, fish, pulses and nuts. Eat at least five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Stick to these rules and in a very short time you'll see noticeable results in your weight and health. Don't overload on carbohydrates. Admittedly, carbs fuel your body, but too many can quickly become counterproductive. Stick to low or no-fat foods. Our bodies need some good and bad fats for maintenance, but keep chips down to once a week, max!
