STAR LETTER
I was very touched by the story in the last issue about the amazing Charan Gill, 'Scotland's Curry King' turned 'Secret Millionaire'.
I watched the Channel 4 programme where Mr Gill went underground in Thetford to find genuinely worthy causes for his support. What impressed me most was just how much time and obvious concern he had for the problems and issues of real people struggling to live just ordinary lives with little or no money.
We all know the kind of people Charan Gill met, but how many of us have the kind of compassion for them that this now very wealthy (and busy) man showed - even though there was nothing to be gained for him other than the knowledge that he had helped people who needed it.
Maybe it's because he started without much money or formal education himself, and went on to achieve everything he now has with imagination and hard work.
I definitely had the feeling that Mr Gill hasn't forgotten what's really important in life - or what it's like to need somebody to believe in you. There should be more like him.
