Van. Maybe not the most exciting word in the dictionary, but the Corsavan is anything but dull. Based on Vauxhall's exciting New Corsa, launched in Autumn 2006, it almost takes a second glance to realise that the New Corsavan is a van at all. Words by Kieron Fenelly, illustrations by Neil Duerden

Great looks allied to intelligent design and engineering elevate this utility concept to new heights. The New Corsavan enjoys the same driveability and renowned low running costs as the much praised New Corsa.

A tough steel floor, half height steel bulkhead and hard-wearing trim in the load area mark out the New Corsavan as far more than a hatch in work clothes. With a class-leading 550kg payload and almost a cubic metre of load volume, the New Corsavan has significantly more usable space than any comparable vehicle.

Vauxhall also considered every feature from the low sill to the high opening tailgate with its robust internal handles, from the wear- resistant rubber matted loading bay to the cargo restraining eyes that are all standard equipment.

And up at the front, the driver and passenger enjoy a degree of comfort that puts many cars to shame.

The superb ergonomics make the cabin a pleasant place in which to spend the long hours sometimes necessary to deliver the goods.

Dedicated stowage for paperwork, space for drinks and the other necessities of days on the road, and comfortable seats all point to a purpose built tool.



Speaking of which, the New Corsavan will never be seen with some tatty radio taped to its dashboard or a domestic fan strapped Heath-Robinson style to the rear view mirror. The New Corsavan comes with a high-spec stereo radio and CD player, and air conditioning is a low cost option as our summers get warmer.

Security is taken care of too. The New Corsavan has an electronic engine deadlock, immobilizer, remote central locking for doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap. This ensures the very demanding Thatcham 'Category Two' level of security as standard.
