NEW CORSA TAKES THE CROWN

Starting 2007 with a bang, the New Corsa picked up not one but two major awards at the What Car? Car of the Year 2007 Awards, sponsored by the RAC.

Not only was the New Corsa crowned best Supermini in this 30th annual ceremony, it scooped the most important award of them all, as overall What Car? Car of the Year 2007 - beating other category winners, including the Audi TT, BMW 5-Series, Land Rover Discovery and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

What Car?'s Group Editor, Steve Fowler declared, 'the New Corsa may be a small car but its talents are huge. It's spacious, refined, well built and good value. It's also strong on safety, environmentally friendly and looks great!'

Accepting the Award, Vauxhall's Managing Director Bill Parfitt said: 'we know we've got this car just right in every regard and this is backed up by record orders, as well as a fabulous reception in the press'. A great way to start any new year.

A VERY CLEAR MESSAGE

For the second year in succession, Astra has topped its class in the ACFO (Association of Car Fleet Operators) Fleet Cars and Vans of the Year Awards. By voting for the Astra as their 2006 ACFO Car of The Year, the influential organisation gave a clear message that fleets are downsizing to more fuel-efficient and CO2 -friendly models - while choosing vehicles that are still more than capable of undertaking the wide range of tasks expected of hard working company cars.

ACFO chairman Julie Jenner explained, 'our members are continually evaluating vehicles and use their expertise to assess cars and vans against a wide range of real-life criteria including whole-life costs, operational performance, safety on the road and suitability for various business uses. In addition to these fleet-appeal factors, driver appeal is also critical, and the Astra clearly delivers this.'

That's the expert view, and what works for them must be good for us all.
