WHAT COMES NATURALLY
One of the things I like most in the magazine now is the big story in the middle where you really go away and drive somewhere, and see a bit of the world without, as one of your writers said recently, having to look out of an aeroplane window. I drive an Astra Sport Hatch, and use it mainly for going to and from work and the usual everyday living things, but any chance I get I will jump in the car, poke a finger into the map and just go somewhere for the pleasure of driving. And before anyone says you can't do that any more because of the state of the roads and the traffic, don't believe it. Just do like the magazine's writers and use your imagination a bit more. Forget about the motorways and the obvious main roads and you'll avoid the problems. That way you won't only miss the jams, you'll find the gems. And you don't have to go a million miles, either. There are fantastic places all around us that so few of us see because we're too ready to jump on a plane. For me, getting up and on the road to enjoy the sunrise, finding the back-roads and just driving, especially with my Astra, is still a joy in itself - and no more complicated than that. So keep the going-places stories coming.

ALL THE SAME THING?
Former Prime Minister John Major and circus legend Gerry Cottle from the same school? I don't know why we'd be so surprised given that their lives had so much in common later on: entertaining the crowds with a permanent smile, walking tightropes, juggling, the occasional tricks and illusions, even working with clowns once in a while. No, being a politician and being a circus man don't sound that different to me. It's only that the ring's a bit bigger if you run away to be Prime Minister.
