6. BEST FISH AND CHIPS
For those who know their cod from their roe, Whitby is the place to be - as the home of the Magpie Café, which has been a fixture on the town’s harbour-side since 1939. It’s housed in a black and white building dating back to 1790, and which staff, allegedly, share with Albert the ghost.

7. BEST MUSEUM
The story of Bletchley Park, the wartime code-breaking centre near Milton Keynes, is a fascinating one. Here, from 1939, some of the brightest minds of the day helped crack the German Enigma code. The charmingly eccentric manor house and surrounding buildings have a unique atmosphere and are stuffed with memorabilia.
