YOU'RE TELLING US
This issue’s story of another epic Vauxhall drive set us thinking about great roads nearer home... And as you can read over the page, we’d very much like to hear about your own favourites.

– GRATEFUL FOR STRENGTH OF A CORSA
Six months ago, I had a bad car accident, which involved crashing on a notorious bend on the A1, which has seen many fatalities over the years. I ended up going into the trees at the side of the road – going backwards, but still travelling in the direction of the traffic, at about 60-70mph.
I sustained what were relatively minor injuries, and given the speed of the accident it was remarkable that I was not more badly hurt. The cause of the accident was never fully established – however, the strength of the car was commented on for minimising my injuries.
The car was a Vauxhall Corsa, and I maintain that the reason that I was no worse off as a result of the accident, with only a few broken bones, was the
fact that I was driving that car. Which is why, following such a traumatic
experience, I now have another Corsa. And why I feel that I am now going to
be a lifelong Vauxhall owner.

– REARRANGING THE DECK CHAIRS…
Last issue’s mention (in your top ten not so bright ideas) of the fate of the Titanic reminded me of a very old, very funny cartoon by, I think, Bill Tidy. The scene is the queues of people outside the offices of the White Star Line after the disaster, waiting for any word of loved ones. At the front of the queue there’s a polar bear, who is asking the officials, ‘Is there any news of the iceberg?’. Lovely...
STAR LETTER
This photograph (above), taken some 18 years ago, is of our two dogs, Max and Zak (sadly no longer with us), looking out of my hubby’s Cavalier. He has always stuck to Vauxhalls, except for one year when – being strapped for cash – he bought a really cheap alternative that we used to have to push in the mornings to get it started, making me late for work and prompting my boss to ask why we didn’t get another Vauxhall! So since then, we always have.
The current one is a Vectra, but I always think of the blue one, with what would have been a small son at the time, the dogs, and touring holidays to Cornwall, Scotland and the Lake District. And being a Vauxhall, it always got me to work on time, too...
